Nick has been recording and studying the recording process seriously since the age of 14. He started learning by watching sessions at Capitol records, Sunset Sound, East West, and Henson, and went on to dive deeper and practice the art at three colleges: CSUMB, Cuesta College, and USC's Thornton School of Music. At the latter, he regularly worked as a recording and live sound engineer for the school. While his passions still lie in the studio, he is now putting in time as a live sound engineer, assisting and engineering high profile, large scale live events with a company called Design Sound and their sister company, West Coast Music. He feels the immediacy of live sound makes him a more efficient recording engineer. He is still actively recording and exploring the sonic world of microphones through many pieces of yet-to-be-released material. Nick is also a studio drummer who has toured with the bands Weatherbox, Fialta, Sundressed, and Hotel Books. He currently drums in an LA-based band pkwy.
Rob Nagelhout was born and raised in the South Bay and has been playing professionally as a bassist since age 15. Rob attended USC where he studied popular music performance. It was this experience that compelled him to further pursue the art of recorded music. After college he and a fellow student formed a production team with which he performed on, engineered, and produced a number of projects ranging from singles, EPs, live videos, and albums. This experience provided him the opportunity to work with and learn from esteemed engineers such as Andrew Scheps (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Adele), Mike Sapone (Brand New, Taking Back Sunday), and Jesse Cannon (The Menzingers, The Misfits).
Along with this studio work, Rob continues to perform regularly, including a recent nationwide tour on bass with Pacific Dub on The Expendables Self Titled 10th Anniversary Tour.
Rob uses his skills and experience to help the client fulfill their artistic vision. These skills include production, engineering, mixing, songwriting, arrangement, and bass. He is passionate about the entire process of creating great music and applies this to every project he works on with the goal of creating something fulfilling for both the artist and the listener.
Born and raised in the punk scene of San Diego, Wade Morris has been writing, recording, and performing music since 2002. He has written and recorded 7 studio albums in bands such as Unknown Motive, The Skank Agents, and Watashi Wa Dance Party! Always obsessed music production, he began recording and producing his own recordings. Shortly after producing EP’s for close friends word of mouth spread and Wade founded Defiant Robot Records in January of 2018. The point of establishing an indie label was to make the process of producing records fun, collaborative, and personal. At this point Wade identifies as a co-producer to the artist as it is important to him that the artist’s creative vision is never stifled.
